About Conflict Resolution Center – St. Louis 

The Conflict Resolution Center – St. Louis (CRCSTL) works to provide professional dispute resolution services that are accessible to all. We aim to be a leader in promoting peaceful, lasting and effective solutions to conflict in St. Louis and the surrounding area, primarily through the facilitation and education of our mediation services. 

CRCSTL mediates conflicts between city employees and/or their supervisors, neighbors, civilians and the police, as well as other conflicts in St. Louis. We are committed to resolving disputes in the region, including cases with and without pending legal matters. 

Position Summary 

CRCSTL believes that internships should be a meaningful opportunity to learn, develop, and implement new skills within the individual’s field of interest. As a result, CRCSTL provides interns significant flexibility in the core tasks of the internship, which are broken into two categories: day-to-day and longer-term projects. Interns will be responsible for certain day-to-day responsibilities based on need and interest, which may include assisting with intake, scheduling of mediators, preparing documents for party signature, and following up with parties post-mediation. In addition, interns will get the opportunity to go through CRCSTL’s Mediation Apprenticeship program, which includes significant practical mediation experience. Each intern will also choose one or more longer-term projects to focus on throughout their time at CRCSTL. These projects may focus on one or more of the following areas: program development, research and policy, advertising and outreach, and/or services improvement. 

Areas of Responsibility 

Day-to-day responsibilities (variable): 

● Assisting Intake Coordinator with reviewing and conducting intakes of new clients ● Scheduling mediators and parties for mediations 

● Preparing documents for party signature 

● Following up with parties post-mediation to assess agreement success 

● Inputting and Reviewing cases in our case management database 

● Participating as a Mediation Apprentice, including shadowing mediators and conducting mediations Longer-term projects (one or more of the following): 

● Program Development: Build a new program, including identifying potential programming, conducting a needs assessment, and drafting a project proposal. Time permitting, may include program implementation, such as training volunteers and conducting programs. 

● Research and Policy: Research new and emerging topics in mediation and alternative dispute resolution, explore current and potential CRCSTL policies, and draft sample policies for the encouragement of mediation in communities, businesses, and courts. Time permitting, may include drafting papers for 

publication, pitching policies to key stakeholders, and/or training on policies or critical topics. ● Advertising and Outreach: Develop a project-specific marketing plan and implement it, including identifying and assessing the target audience. This project may be topic-specific (e.g. police-citizen mediations) or media specific (e.g. blog). 

Services Improvement: Assess existing services and propose methods for improvement. These projects will involve using and creating metrics, tracking outputs and outcomes, and researching effective solutions from other mediation organizations. 

Professional Qualifications 

The ideal candidate would possess the following: 

● J.D., M.S.W. or Certificate in ADR students of any year; 

● Experience working with people from diverse cultural, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds; ● Experience with mediation preferred; 

● Excels in medium- to low-structure environments; 

● Strong written and spoken communication skills; and 

● Comfortable working virtually.

Compensation: This a stipend based internship.
